Insulating pitched roofs

If your home features ceilings located directly beneath a pitched roof, you will typically need to install new loft insulation or increase the amount you already have. Your goal should be to achieve a minimum depth of 250 mm.

You can accomplish this by using either mineral fibre or cellulose fibre. These materials are commonly available as a quilt, which you lay both between and across your ceiling joists, or as a loose fill. Of course, any other material that provides an equivalent level of insulation is also acceptable.

However, this general guidance might not apply if your loft already has existing boarding. This is particularly relevant if your work plans do not include removing that boarding.
